FIVE NETWORKS / CONNECTED AUTOMATION

Choose the network for the system

Compare the application layer, device interfaces and communication requirements before selecting modules.

01Real-time control and information traffic

CC-Link IE TSN

Time-Sensitive Networking brings control and information traffic into one planned network.

  • Deterministic communication

Time synchronization and scheduling support real-time control alongside TCP/IP traffic.

  • Connected devices

Connect compatible PLCs, servos and I/O. Typical products support 1 Gbps / 100 Mbps; check model.

  • Architecture and diagnostics

Flexible topologies and diagnostics. Match switches, device Classes, protocol versions and synchronization support.

Selection consideration

New equipment requiring coordinated motion, fast I/O and production data integration.

02Data sharing between controllers

CC-Link IE Control

A control-level network for distributed controllers and shared production data.

  • Controller coordination

Stations exchange data through link relays and registers.

  • Gigabit communication

1 Gbps, with optical or twisted-pair products depending on module.

  • Reliability and maintenance

Optical models use dual-loop and loop-back functions; engineering tools diagnose supported modules.

Selection consideration

Distributed controller data sharing or an optical backbone for noisy environments.

03High-speed field device connections

CC-Link IE Field

Ethernet-based field networking for fast I/O, distributed devices and compatible drives.

  • Gigabit field communication

1 Gbps with cyclic data exchange and transient messaging.

  • Flexible wiring

Line, star and ring configurations depend on module. Typical copper segment length is 100 m.

  • Motion and safety

Synchronous motion or safety communication requires compatible controllers, modules and field devices.

Selection consideration

High-speed I/O, flexible expansion and existing IE Field installations.

04Lightweight standard Ethernet networking

CC-Link IE Basic

Full name: CC-Link IE Field Network Basic. Software-based cyclic communication for small systems.

  • Software protocol stack

Compatible Ethernet interfaces provide cyclic communication with less dedicated network hardware.

  • Standard network connections

Typical 100 Mbps communication using standard Ethernet components, alongside TCP/IP traffic.

  • Straightforward setup

Configure parameters and IP addresses. Station limits, refresh cycles and line topology support vary by device.

Selection consideration

Small equipment exchanging general I/O and status data; check refresh requirements.

NETWORK COMPARISON

Five network technologies at a glance

Link speed is not the control refresh cycle. Topology, station limits, motion and safety features depend on the selected devices and software. Check compatible modules and switches.
